The wear layer protects the design layer from scratches, stains, and wear caused by daily activities. Since this transparent surface layer determines the durability of a product, thicker is better. Therefore, the best brands have the greatest plank and tile thickness and a thick wear layer. A 20+mil protective layer is ideal for the most active households.
LVP and LVT flooring have a stone plastic composite core; the best vinyl material is almost indestructible. The primary component in this core is limestone. Instead of being flexible like standard vinyl, this rigid core flooring feels similar to the material it imitates. All SPC flooring is waterproof. It won't change structurally even when it is in standing water.
WPC
Luxury vinyl plank and tile that has a wood-plastic composite core, or WPC, is also waterproof. Like SPC flooring, this type of flooring is not damaged by standing water. In addition to wood byproducts, a WPC core contains a foaming agent that makes it softer underfoot than SPC. While this rigid core vinyl flooring is not as tough as SPC, it is strong and made to last.
