Ceramic and porcelain tile installation are more complex than carpet, vinyl, and laminate installation. Porcelain, in particular, is hard to cut because it is brittle. Tiles are affixed to a fiber cement underlayment or a cement board with mortar. Then, the joints between tiles are filled with grout.
It takes one week to nail unfinished solid hardwood boards to a wood subfloor and then sand, stain, and seal those boards. Acclimation takes an additional week. Prefinished solid hardwood and engineered wood, constructed of a surface layer of hardwood and a plywood base, can be installed in one day.
