A new floor brings many benefits, but installation is key
You enjoy many aesthetic and functional benefits when you install a new floor. Depending on the material you choose, flooring installation can take as little as a few hours or as long as two weeks. Carpet
Carpet installation occurs after the subfloor is repaired if any damage is discovered when the existing floor is removed. Installers use a carpet stretcher to pull the carpet across the floor, so it lays flat throughout its lifespan. Seams are hidden, and tack strips are put in place. Some carpeting is glued to the subfloor.
Vinyl
One sheet of vinyl is cut from a roll to cover a small room while a larger room takes two or three sheets. An entire sheet can be glued to the subfloor or around the perimeter of the room only. Luxury vinyl comes in planks and tiles. This thicker vinyl usually clicks and locks together so a floating floor can be constructed.
Laminate
Like luxury vinyl, laminate comes in planks and tiles that usually mimic hardwood and stone. While some brands are glued to the subfloor, most laminate fits together, so the floor floats over the subfloor. As with carpet and vinyl, a special underlayment must be placed beneath the laminate before it is installed.
Tile
Ceramic and porcelain tile installation are more complex than carpet, vinyl, and laminate installation. Porcelain, in particular, is hard to cut because it is brittle. Tiles are affixed to a fiber cement underlayment or a cement board with mortar. Then, the joints between tiles are filled with grout.
